Sporting a new design since May, the University of Indianapolis website—www.uindy.edu—was the big winner in the 2011 EduStyle Higher-Ed Web Awards announced in August. The UIndy site claimed top honors for Best Overall Website and Best Home Page, in each case leading the pack in both professional judging and “people’s choice” online voting. The awards were announced at the sixth Annual EduWEB Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
EduStyle is an online gallery for digital designers and developers working in higher education, and the awards celebrate the best work in college and university websites. More than 900 entries, from institutions large and small across the nation, were considered in 19 categories. In the finals for Best Overall Website, UIndy faced Georgetown University and Warner Pacific College.
The UIndy redesign was led by the University’s Communications & Marketing office, which worked for a year with Indianapolis-based marketing and design firm Rare Bird to develop an engaging new navigational structure that caters to specific audiences and makes information easy to find, especially for prospective students. The changes also included an updated visual design, fresh text, and more extensive use of photos.
