1930s

Helen White Hawkey ’34 passed away on March 18, 2012. Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Havaughty, and son-in-law, Ken Havaughty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell. She lived in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Doris Scholer Davis ’36 died December 19, 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Marietta; son, Douglas; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lived in Eureka, NC.

Floris Highsmith Smith ’36 passed away on January 4. She was a retired teacher from Youngstown City High School. Survivors include her son, Michael; sister, Frances; four grandchildren, 17 great-
grandchildren, and two great-great-grand-children. She lived in Youngstown, Ohio.

Thomas Adler ’37 died on December 9, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Howard Adler ’37. He is survived by two daughters, Verna Adler MacCornack ’69 and Theresa; son, Raymond; sister, Dorothy; and six grandchildren. He lived in Noblesville, Ind.

L. Wayne Smith ’37 passed away on January 23. He was a retired pastor at Whitewater Presbytery in Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Davis Smith ’38. Survivors include his daughters, Ann Williams, Kay Fish, Jean Wood, and Judy Whitlock. He lived in St. Cloud, Minn.

Dorothy Milhouse Jacobs ’39 died January 11. Survivors include her husband, George Jacobs ’42 ’77; son, Mark Jacobs ’76; daughter-in-law,  Janet French Jacobs ’76; daughters, Carolyn Jacobs Hartman ’67 and Joyce Jacobs Erfert ’68 ’70; son-in-law, John Hartman, Jr. ’67; nieces, Mary Milhouse Haus-wald ’56 and Pauline Milhouse Vermillion ’61; nephew-in-law, Ronald Hauswald ’54; nephew, Paul Milhouse ’63; and niece-in-law, Martha Jane Catlin Milhouse ’65. She was preceded in death by brother, Paul Milhouse ’32 ’50; sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Noblitt Milhouse ’31 and Clare Jacobs Stone ’44; and brother-in-law, Philip Stone ’42 ’69. She lived in Franklin, Ind.

Pauline Waitt Johnson ’39 passed away January 7. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Johnson Showalter ’70. She lived in Sheridan, Ind.

1940s

Phyllis Lynn Cornetet ’40 died October 30, 2012. Survivors include her son, Gerald; daughters, Joan and Nancy; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, R. Emerson Lynn. She lived in Elkhart, Ind.

Herschel Grose ’42 passed away December 30, 2012. He served in the U.S. Navy as a radar officer in World War II. He was a research chemist for DuPont, then a chemistry professor at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte. He is survived by his sister, Betty; six children, thirteen grand-children, and eleven great-grandchildren. He lived in North Canton, Ohio.

Donald Gorbett ’43 passed away on December 12, 2012. He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Gorbett Leibold ’66, Marilyn Gorbett Barnard ’74, and Barbara Gorbett Maxson ’69; son-in-law, Walter Maxson ’70; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He lived in Franklin, Ind.

Anna Marjorie Wade Cravens ’44 died July 16, 2012. Survivors include her sister, Phyllis; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Cravens ’42; sons, Richard and Donald; and grandson, Justin. She lived in Tipton, Ind.

Clare Jacobs Stone ’44 died November 11, 2012.  Survivors include her son, Dennis Stone ’67; daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Everitt Stone ’67; daughter, Donna Jacobs Mullen ’68 ’70; son-in-law, Marlowe Mullen ’70; son, John; daughter-in-law, Peggy Buck Stone ’74; brother, George Jacobs ’42 ’77; nephew, Mark Jacobs ’76; niece, Joyce Jacobs Erfert ’68 ’70 and Carolyn  Jacobs Hartman ’67; and sister-in-law, Martha Stone Tupper ’52. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Stone ’42 ’69; sister-in-law, Dorothy Milhouse Jacobs ’39; and parents, J. Willard and Esther Jacobs. She lived in Franklin, Ind.
