Classnotes: 1928 to 1969
Anna Dale Kek ’28 passed away July 12. She was president of the Venice Chapter of the American Association of University Women and was also the dean of admissions at Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evan Kek ’30. She lived in Venice, Fla.
Daniel Barrow ’34 passed away August 23. He was retired from the Federal Aviation Agency as deputy director. His previous wife, Ruth Barrow, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Janet Reinsel Barrow; daughters, Marilyn Smith and Carol Beesle; son, Dan Barrow, Jr.; five grandchildren; and four great-grand-children. He lived in Prairie Village, Kans.
Harold Everitt ’39 died August 16. He served as an Illinois conference representative on the UIndy board of trustees. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Dawson. He later married Nelle Williams, who survives. He is also survived by children Mary Stone ’67 and John Everitt ’69. He lived in Frankfort, Ind.
Orville Cole ’42 passed away August 10. He served as pastor for many congregations before retiring in 1983. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgina. Survivors are daughter Mary Robison and four grandchildren. He lived in East Peoria, Ill.
Adolph Walker ’42 passed away January 26. He was a retired physician. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and children, James, Sharon, and Paula. He lived in North Andover, Mass.
Hallie Davis Sidebottom ’43 passed away September 1. She was a tax preparer at H & R Block. Husband Kenneth Sidebottom ’42 preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters Bonnie Harris ’74 and Donna Page ’80; sons Dale ’68, Philip, Richard ’74, and Charles ’84; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grand-children. She lived in Indianapolis.
Herbert Smith ’44 passed away August 9. He was an industrial arts teacher at Emmerich Manual and George Washington high schools in Indianapolis. He was a recipient of UIndy’s Honorary Alumni Award. He was preceded in death by wife Marjorie Anson Smith ’45; brother Cecil Smith Jr. ’37; uncle Evan Kek ’30, and aunt Anna Kek ’28. Survivors include sister-in-law Margaret Burris ’47 and daughter Rene Humerickhouse. He lived in Goshen, Ind.
Alfred Ahner ’47 HD ’81 died September 21. The recipient of the 2006 Distinguished Alumni Award from UIndy, he was a retired Adjutant General for the Indiana National Guard. Survivors include wife Betty Ahner; sons Mark and Michael; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and sister Eula Pointer. He lived in Indianapolis.
Lloyd Coverstone ’50 passed away July 16. He was a teacher at Brookston and Greenwood schools in Indiana. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served on the U.S.S. Massachusetts. Survivors include his wife, Gloria; daughters, Terry Bellamy and Marty Baker; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He lived in Indianapolis.
Sam Young ’64, a pastor at Central Christian Church, received the Honored Minister pin in honor of his retirement after forty-two years. He and his wife, Judy, have four children and seven grandchildren. They live in Huntington, Ind.
Barbara Pickering ’69 died August 6. She was a registered nurse who worked in several hospitals and in private care homes in Indianapolis. She was also a pharmaceutical sales representative for McNeil Consumer Products and Abbott Laboratories. She is survived by her husband, Jim Pickering; daughters, Kara Cromer and Michelle Forsythe; brother, Bob Weaver; four grandchildren; and nephew, Brian Weaver. She lived in Indianapolis.
